Valencia striker Rafa Mir, 27, has explained his disagreements with Sevilla before joining the Los Blancos this summer.
Valencia new signing Rafa Mir has opened up about the conflicts that have plagued Sevilla ahead of his loan move to Los Blancos this summer with an option to buy for €5m.
The 27-year-old joined Sevilla from Wolves in the summer of 2021 and played a key role in his first two seasons, before a period of change at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan took its toll on Rafa Mir’s career, with him eventually deciding to return to former club Valencia this summer.
‘In the summer (2023) I told them I wanted to leave, to change the atmosphere and to go to Valencia. The club also bet on me. Sevilla set some conditions and at the last minute they wanted to change ‘No, not now’. I told him (Victor Orta) that he had promised me. That he had given it to me to decide and now he would let me decide. And he told me that I would be a very important player. I went home resigned (to my fate),’ said the 27-year-old striker.
Mir also revealed that he had the opportunity to move to AC Milan as well. But in the end, Sevilla canceled the deal. ‘I was waiting at home with my suitcase ready to board the plane to Milan and they told me that they could not find a replacement and for that reason they would not let me go. Sevilla coach Enrique Sanchez Flores later told Rafa Mir that he was not part of his plans and the 27-year-old forward was continually drop from the squad. But he remain silent about his grievances.

‘I have a good relationship with Navas, Ramos and Rakitic and nobody understands the situation. They don’t understand why the club doesn’t let me go and at this moment when the team needs goals and character, they don’t trust me.’
